Please understand that these blog posts are written to use language that people commonly use when searching for help with their adoption plans. Unfortunately, while many of us are familiar with positive adoption language, most expectant moms that come to us at first do not understand what that means. The most common search term on the internet for expectant moms is “how do I give up my baby for adoption.” If we do not include those words in our blog posts, and instead put “how do I create an adoption plan for my baby” then our website will not show up in most expectant moms’ Google search results.
There are many misconceptions about adoption that may keep people from exploring it. Let’s clear up the confusion by busting some common myths.
Myth #1: Only married couples can adopt. Truth: Many single parents successfully adopt children every year.
Myth #2: Adoption is always expensive. Truth: While some private adoptions cost more, foster care adoption can be low-cost or even free.
Myth #3: Adopted children are always emotionally troubled. Truth: Like all kids, adopted children thrive with stability, love, and support.
Myth #4: You have to be rich to adopt. Truth: Financial stability is important, but you don’t need to be wealthy. There are also adoption grants and tax credits available.
Myth #5: You’ll never bond like “real” families do. Truth: Love and connection come from time, care, and shared experiences—not just biology.
Let’s challenge these myths and keep the focus where it belongs—on giving kids safe, loving homes.
